Grape seed extract may fight Alzheimer's (Reuters)

Reuters - A red grape seed extract that packs the punch purchase wholesale l-phenylalanine powder red wine -- without the alcohol -- could help protect against memory loss due to Alzheimer's disease, research in mice suggests.

I recently read about a animal feed supplement called XCP. This supplement is a dried yeast product. Several companies are engaged in the manufacture of yeast supplements. A company called Diamond V manufactures a yeast feed supplement named XCP. It has been doing this for about 63 years and has a proprietary process. That is the introduction and now I will get to the place where the story gets interesting.

After several years it became noticeable that the employees working in the yeast processing room were seldom sick. Their counter parts in the other parts of the factory had the usual routine seasonal illnesses as did the processing room employees family's. The yeast was not knowingly or intentionally ingested, but, rather was absorbed as dust in the air.

There are yeast pores in the air in many parts of the world. And the strain of yeast pores vary over the face of the earth. This is often called wild yeast. That is why sourdough bread from San Francisco is so popular. They have a strain of yeast in that area that produces delightful bread. There is either a big difference between the wild yeast and Diamond V Mill's proprietary blend or possibly the air in the processing room has a high concentration of yeast. They claim that their processed yeast is not viral, but, contains dead yeast spores.

As this was a feed grade manufacturing facility and not a food grade facility, the company was somewhat slow or possibly reluctant to investigate its use on humans. As the research continued, more and more health benefits were documented.

The term used to describe XCP's function in our bodies is that it acts to balance the immune system as opposed to some products that tend to stimulate the immune system. It is best to think of XCP as preventing diseases by balancing the immune system rather than curing diseases by stimulating the immune system. There are many medical problems cause by an over stimulated immune system: such diseases as typ1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis. The Diamond V employees working in the yeast process area reported no downside to working in that yeast rich atmosphere. The up side for those employees was almost no incidences of colds or flues for a period of 30 years for some employees.

Safety and toxic studies have established that this product produces no toxicity concerns. It has been tested for the common pesticide residues and none were found. Tests have determined that this yeast product does not interfere with any current medications. The antioxidant properties of this product are very high and some might call it a super antioxidant.

Diamond V Mills now makes a food grade supplement for human consumption called EpiCor. How this differs from the original animal feed supplement is not known, other that the EpiCor is available I believe in capsule form.

There is not a lot of information available for this product. I expect as more people become aware of this yeast product , more information will be available. I mainly wanted to give a heads up that an interesting health supplement was on the horizon if not readily available.
